Physical Education News Term 1 Overview: Foundation students will develop running skills, exploring changes of speed and direction safely while noticing how their body balances and coordinates. They will engage positively with peers through cooperative games that encourage turn-taking. Year 1 and 2 students will focus on overhand throwing and ball bouncing, improving control, hand-eye coordination, and body awareness. They will practise these skills in small group activities that encourage collaboration and problem-solving. Year 3 and 4 will participate in invasion games, practising agility, spatial awareness, and effective movement while cooperating with teammates and supporting others. Year 5 and 6 will participate in invasion games, applying refined timing, precise movement, and strategic decision-making while collaborating effectively with their team.
Run Club Run Club occurs on Thursday from 8:45 am until the music starts, on the oval. Students collect their named Lap Card from their class folder and earn a stamp for each 200 m lap. Once they reach 5 km (Foundation) or 10 km (Years 1–6), they receive a certificate at assembly. Thanks to our parent volunteers for helping with stamping!
Sports Captain Our 2026 Sports Captain, Lachlan, will support sporting events across FPS, including presenting Run Club certificates and sharing PE updates at assembly. AVDSSA / SSV Events Information will be shared throughout the year about Ascot Vale District School Sports Association (AVDSSA) / School Sport Victoria (SSV) events, including swimming, summer and winter Gala Days, cross country, athletics, and Year 5/6 basketball.
SSV Age Groups Reminder For School Sport Victoria (SSV) events, students compete in age groups based on the age they turn during that year: 9/10 years, 11 years, and 12/13 years. While this is covered at school, students can find it tricky, so we appreciate families reinforcing it at home. Knowing their date of birth also helps with event registration.
Sun Safety – Hats Students need a broad-brimmed hat in Terms 1 and 4 for all outdoor PE. Without a hat, students remain in shaded areas. Please remind your child to bring their hat on PE days. Replacement hats can be purchased from the school office (03 9376 7137).
Lost Property Any PE clothing left outside the gym is taken to the front corridor lost property basket. Please label items clearly.
