Art News
Students have been really dedicated to their art projects, and they're really proud of what they have made. A lot of pieces have been heading home recently. Showing off your child's creations is a fantastic way to spark conversations about their art. You can ask them what materials they used (like oil pastels, watercolors, markers, etc.) and what inspired them, or just say, 'Tell me about it...'. Please take the time to enjoy their artworks.
Classroom Curriculum:
Foundation: Foundation students worked on extra-large capital letters and they have actually been taken home in week 2. If you find that they are a bit a bit wonky from travelling home, some blu-tac under the base might be useful. Foundation students will begin a work based on the art of the Pormpuraaw artists who turn ghost nets into world-renowned pieces and use this for inspiration to create a multi-media work. They will then look at art from the Gond people of India to be able to make a comparative analysis between the 2 different styles of aquatic artworks
Years 1 & 2: Year 1 and 2 students are finalising their First Nations Dreamtime inspired project and will begin work soon on a creative response to a text using the author / artist Antje Damm’s work as inspiration. These will be used for display in Term 3. If time permits they will then be learning collaging techniques drawing inspiration from the “Darug Songlines”, a book that helps to extend the learning of the seasonal changes depicted by the Australian Animals.
Year 3 & 4: Year 3 and 4 students have been diligently exploring Aboriginal Rarrk painting ideas and techniques to create their own version of an x-ray painting. They will then explore hand modelling techniques with clay drawing inspiration from clay to produce a ceramic leaf. If time permits they will then be learning about expressive portraiture using the visual elements of line, shape, colour and tone in their work. Some of the artist’s for inspiration include Kimmy Cantrell, Pablo Picasso and Sandra Silberzweig.
