Art News
Wow - what an incredible start to the year we have had! In the art room, we've been hard at work setting up our massive collaborative artwork that illustrates the concepts of fixed and growth mindsets (to the left, you can see an example of what we explored). Our artwork features thoughtful and imaginative representations of both mindsets, and everyone from Foundation to Year 4 has taken part. A huge thank you to all who contributed.
Art Club: While our Art Captain, Abdullahi Shek, is away, Kaspar Glozer and Eddie Bentley have taken on the role of Vice Art Captains until he comes back.
Classroom Curriculum:
Foundation, Year 1 / 2 and Year 3 / 4: All students are engaged in exploring the visual elements of colour, line, and contrast. Our inspirational artist is Jen Stark, renowned for her optical art that features psychedelic colours in patterns and drips, resembling the intricate motifs found in nature. Each individual piece will be photocopied to contribute to a larger, collaborative installation. I envision this artwork as a figurative representation of growth versus a fixed mindset, where the vibrant colours contrast with the black and white areas, creating a compelling visual.
Our upcoming project will focus on self-portraits. We will examine proportions and the similarities and differences in skin tones. Initially, we will create a self-portrait and colour it using specific skin-toned oil pastels. Next, we will transfer these portraits onto clay slabs, paying particular attention to texture and expression. After a bisque firing, they will be painted with skin-toned acrylic paints.
