Auslan News
This term, the following students have Auslan in the Language classroom:
Foundation, Year 3/4s and Year 5/6s.
All the classes have been excited for the start of Auslan. We have already learnt that
Auslan is an official language of Australia and is used to communicate with the deaf
community within Australia. Students will be learning the alphabet along with signs
for words to use in everyday communication. This includes colours and numbers.
Students will also be learning through a large variety of songs.
Support Auslan at Home
There are many ways to support the learning of Auslan at home. This includes asking
your child to show you what signs they have learnt.

 Auslan Foundation

  Auslan Year 1/2
  • Understand what Auslan is.
  • Recognise the signs of the Alphabet
  • Recognise common signs in Auslan such as colours and numbers.

 Auslan Year 3/4

  Auslan Year 5/6
  • Explain what Auslan is.
  • Recognise and do signs of the Alphabet
  • Recognise and do common signs for colours, animals and numbers.
  • Explain what Auslan is and why we are learning the language.
  • Recognise and do signs of the alphabet. Including signing their name.
  • Recognise and do signs for numbers.
  • Recognise and do common signs to have a simple conversation.
