Students are an important part of all decisions at Flemington Primary School. FPS students are not only involved in providing an active voice in their learning but also providing feedback and developing initiatives in the school that makes FPS the outstanding educational place that it is. Whilst some students have leadership roles and positions of responsibility, ALL students are encouraged and supported to develop ideas and initiatives that improve our school- you don’t need to wear a badge to do something wonderful in our school.
Every year there is an election to choose our new leaders. All current year 4 and 5 students along with all staff members vote for the following year's student leadership team. Students have the option to nominate for any of the following positions when they are going into Year 6:
School Captain
Vice School Captain
Cashmere House Captain
Delhi House Captain
Mangalore House Captain
Mooltan House Captain
Art Captain
Language and Culture Captain
Music Captain
Sport Captain
Stem Captain
Our school leaders write articles in the school newsletter, introduce assemblies and attend school tours with the school's leadership team. Our house captains encourage their team during sport days and our specialist captains work closely with our specialist teachers in the co-ordination of extension classes.
The School also has a SRC which is a body of students within a school that consists of elected student representatives from different year levels or classes. The primary purpose of the SRC is to represent the student body and act as a liaison between students and school administration or staff.
It is a democratic body composed of students elected by their classroom peers to represent the student body in school affairs and decision-making processes.
The purpose of an SRC is to provide students with a platform to voice their opinions, advocate for their needs, and contribute to the improvement of their school community. Members of the SRC often work closely with school administration and initiate projects that benefit the student body and the school as a whole.
The SRC plays a vital role in promoting student engagement, leadership, and empowerment within the school environment.
Every class has two SRC members who meet regularly with our school leaders to share their ideas from students in ways in which we can improve our school. The SRC members will work through different ideas and lead the action of these.
