Issue 19

Principal's report 19/11/21

Welcome to our third last newsletter for the year! Well done to all of our students who have continued to settle well into learning and working with the return to school, COVID restrictions such as mask wearing and also seeing some of their peers moved back into lock downs with a couple of positive cases. Our year 6 students have demonstrated great resilience and compassion for their peers in such a demanding time. Please see below for the latest regarding the management of COVID-19 close contacts in schools.

Changes to management of COVID  positive cases and close contacts

Based on advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer, some significant changes have been made to how cases of COVID-19 and contacts of cases are managed in schools as we reach the 90% double dose milestone for eligible people in the coming days.

Schools will continue the process of identifying contacts of a confirmed case of COVID-19 at schools; contacts will no longer be contacted by the Department of Health with quarantine requirements. If your child is identified as a contact the school will contact you directly.

Contacts will be required to complete a standard (PCR) test within 24 hours from when they are identified by the school as a contact.

If the PCR test returns a negative result, the student can immediately return to school, with evidence of the negative result provided to the school. Another test at 5 days is strongly recommended. Schools will not be receiving rapid antigen testing however these are available at testing sites.

In exceptional circumstances the Department of Health may determine that contacts in significant school outbreaks are still required to quarantine for seven days. In this scenario, students will be notified directly of any additional quarantine arrangements.

Face Masks

Face masks are still required by staff, visitors and students in Years 3 to 6 students in an indoor space.

The wearing of masks remains recommended elsewhere where physically distancing cannot be maintained and is strongly recommended for students in Foundation to Year 2.

As we head into the final few weeks of the school year, please continue to care for yourself and those around you.

Kiss and drop  in the morning and collect and clear in the afternoon

There are no changes to our start of day and end of day procedures for drop off and pick up.

Kiss and drop your child at the barriers from 8.45am.

Foundation - Year 2 finish at 3.20pm and Year 3-6 finish at 3.30pm. Please collect your child and clear the school grounds promptly.

2021 Foundation Information and Transition Sessions

This Tuesday we held our second 2022 Foundation Transition session. Well done to all of our new students and their families who have been fully participating in a hybrid transition model of both online and face to face transition sessions.

Be Your Bestival

Have you seen our Be Your Bestival yet? It is still available for viewing on our website. The password details and how to log in have been uploaded to ClassDojo again this week. The Bestival is full of performances created by our students both onsite and in the lock down with our creative artist Briony Farrell. The Bestival turned to an online delivery as we were unable to perform live due to COVID restrictions.

Our revamped sick bay

Have a look at our new sick bay! It offers a more private and contemporary space for our students who receive first aid. Well done to Graham for completing this work during the remote learning period. This work is an example of what happens with the fees that you pay to keep Flemington Primary School facilities first class for your children. So what’s next? Keep reading…

Science Wing

Our Science Wing is also receiving a revamp. The design of this space was done in conjunction with students from the High Ability Program and our HAP teacher Mr Tom Collins. Students also looked at furniture and budgets to determine what they wanted in the space and could afford. The furniture has now been purchased and is waiting for Graham to finish the refurbishment so we can set up. Watch this space!

2022 FPS Instrumental Music

Flemington primary school has an outstanding instrumental music and choral music program, with a purpose-built music centre and dedicated music teachers.

Expressions of Interest are now sought for next year’s music program. Due to the success of music at our school, places are limited, with priority given to providing students with the opportunity to learn at least one instrument. Of course, if space is available, students may learn a second instrument.

An Expression of Interest form has been sent home with all students. In this pack, you will find an outline of instruments available in the program, advice on instrument selection (particularly useful for new students), instrument hire and the fee structure. Please return this form ASAP to secure a place in this amazing program.

Not returning in 2022

If you are not returning to FPS in 2022 we need to know NOW. Please contact us ASAP as this impacts all 2022 planning. This does not refer to students who are in Year 6.
