Cai Guo-Qiang and the Terracotta Warriors

The Terracotta warriors are lifesized figures that were made around 2000 years ago but were discovered only 45 years ago. They were made to protect the first emperor in the afterlife. The emperor’s tomb is buried in Mount Li. He was buried with all of the treasures he had.

The exhibit we saw was also done by Cai Guo-Qiang. Cai does his artwork with mainly gunpowder and is known as the person who designed the fireworks for the opening ceremony at the Beijing Olympics. The reason he uses gun powder in his art work is because when he was young boy, there was a civil war happening in China and gun powder was used. This was the inspiration for his beautiful artwork.
