Library Program

Ms Natasha Gracey & Mrs Rachel Gradzka

Library is offered to students in years Prep - 2. Classroom teachers take classes for students in Grades 3 - 6.

One hour a week in the Library allows students the opportunity to learn about the Dewey Catalogue system, the fiction shelving system and how to locate and borrow books of interest.

Students participate in an explicit literacy program aimed to develop a love of reading, the ability to locate and use information, and the care of books.Students are able to borrow books to read at home and develop responsibility in caring for them. They are also introduced to Australian and international authors, experience storytime and learn about authors, illustrators and genre.

The library provides an enriching reading environment for the whole school.

Each student at Flemington Primary School has a weekly library lesson with a focus on developing and nurturing a love of reading. The importance of language and literacy in the lives of children can not be underestimated. Language is intrinsic to all learning. It is through language that students are able to discover and explore texts, develop and articulate ideas, and express feelings.

Students use language and literacy in all subject areas during primary school and will continue to use the skills, strategies and knowledge they acquire throughout their lives.

Premiers Reading Challenge is now on - let's get reading!
