Enrolment Overview

General Enrolment Information

The Victorian school enrolment year commences late January to mid December each year, covering 4 terms.  Normally Term 1 commences late January and goes through to late March or early April followed by a two week break.  Term 2 usually commences from mid April to late June followed by another two week break.  Term 3 usually commences mid July to mid September followed by the last two week break.  The final term for the year, Term 4 usually commences early October with the year finishing in mid December.  After this, there is generally a five to six week holiday break and then the next year of schooling will commence.

The schooling grade level of your child is dependent upon their birthday.  Our year levels are as follows:

a)       Foundation or Prep

b)       Grade 1

c)       Grade 2

d)       Grade 3

e)       Grade 4

f)       Grade 5

g)      Grade 6 and then you will need to attend a Secondary College for further years (Year 7 to Year 12).

In order to start school, your child must turn 5 before 30th April in the year they are to attend school eg. If their birthdate is 14/4/2012 then the child can start school in 2017 as they will turn 5 before 30/4/2017 however if their birthdate is 2/5/2012 then they will not be able to start until 2018.  Once you have determined the year your child can start school then you will be able to determine the grade level eg. If your child can start school in 2013 (Foundation or Prep) and the current year is 2016 then they will be in Grade 3.

Prep Enrolment – Starting following year

Our enrolment process is to accept enrolments for our Prep intake from Term 2 (April to June) in the year before your child is to commence school.  We take all enrolments during this time and sort through them in July and advise in the same month if you have a place. We usually have tours scheduled weekly on Tuesday mornings starting from mid April going through to the end of June and no appointment is necessary.  All tours are conducted by either our principal or experienced teachers along with our student leaders.  These tours begin at 9.15am from the office.  At the conclusion of the tour you can collect enrolment documentation.

As we have space for 4 classes, we are usually able to offer a place for every application received regardless of whether they live within our boundary, however places are granted in the following order:

a) within our boundary ie. We are your designated neighbourhood school.  Check your address against our boundary on www.melbourneschoolzones.com/  to check your designated neighbourhood school.

b) will have a sibling at our school when your child will start

c) distance out of our boundary

Please note, if we are not your designated neighbourhood school, you will be advised to visit your designated neighbourhood school as a first consideration.  If you wish, you can be put on a waiting list at Flemington Primary School and we may contact your neighbourhood school to discuss the release of an enrolment outside our boundary.  If we are not your neighbourhood school, we would like a letter advising why you wish to enrol your child at this school.  To check enrolment boundaries please put your address in the search box on www.melbourneschoolzones.com/

With regards to choosing a kindergarten, we don't have one attached to the school but Flemington St Childcare Centre shares a common fence line with our school.   Over the years we have taken children from many kindergartens within the local area.  Around late February each year the school sends information to all the kindergartens advising them of our enrolment process.
